Three Gilbert tunes appear on New Tremeloes Release!

(September 1969)....a visit at the end of the month to Saturday People saw the group also performed a couple of songs "You," which had actually appeared on Here Come The Tremeloes back in early 1967, and the psychedelic pop effort "What Can I Do" that had been penned by a young songwriter by the name of Gilbert O'Sullivan (as, indeed, was "Come On Home", also included on this release). The Irishman had been hanging around the Tremeloes, who at the time were dabbling in management, for the last couple of years after being discovered by their, producer Mike Smith, but he eventually slipped through their clutches to join the Gordon Mills management stable, spearheaded of course by Tom Jones and Englebert Humperdinck.
It’s one of the pop world’s little ironies, then that, while the onset of the 1970s seemed to hold genuine promise for the Tremeloes after "(Call Me) Number One" had given the group both renewed commercial success and (at last) critical acclaim, they would sadly never enjoy a comparably high profile again, while their hitherto obscure semi-protégé O'Sullivan would become one of the biggest names in the British firmament during the first half of the new decade.
