A Scruff At Heart is released in Japan!

14 new songs recall Gilbert's earlier efforts!

The sound of this CD is very different than Gilbert's last release Piano Foreplay which showcased his jazzier side. A Scruff At Heart recalls his 1976 SouthPaw and By Larry from 1994. Gilbert has kept the production to a minimum in terms of instruments. You won't find guitars, drums or bass but instead strings, woodwinds and something new to his records: vocal harmonies. One of the most interesting arrangments on the CD is "You Can't Con-crete." It has the feel of a Chicago recording with a good dose of brass!

This latest work in three years includes many song styles: some are somber: "Taking Sides", "One Door Closes" and some are witty and pure O'Sullivan "Force of Habit", "My Place or Yours." Gilbert is a storyteller with the knack of taking quotidian situations and presenting them in a song. "Just So You Know" and "Don't Let It Get To You" are perfect examples. He's also the master at love songs, "What's In a Kiss" and "Taking A Chance On Love" just to name two. Of course, he's done it again with "I'm In Love with Love (Again)."

Every O'Sullivan release contains a few "gems" and this is true of A Scruff At Heart. Gilbert has been writing songs for almost thirty years. His fascination started at the upright piano in his mother's home in Swindon, England. It continues today in his private studio on the Isle of Jersey. One thing is for certain concerning all of Gilbert's songs: they are a force of habit and I can't say fairer than that!
