Takes

IN A rant that might strike a chord with other ageing pop stars, Seventies legend Gilbert O'Sullivan says he is less than appreciated by today's music business.

"Every time I make an album I take it to record companies and I have a big reject file. I'm rejected the way young hopefuls are, " mewls the 57-year-old, whose hits include Get Down and Clair. He also bashes the music press and radio stations. "I'm ignored. I resent that. Radio 2 dropped me from its playlist because I didn't fit the demographic. I don't get interviews with the music press. Q Magazine didn't even review my latest album."

But Q editor Paul Rees retorts: "Poor man. We do review his spate of re-issues in the next issue, although it only got two stars, so that's unlikely to change his opinion."

Someone out there still likes Gilbert, though. His hits album, The Berry Vest, has hit No.20 in the album charts.
