I have been known to visit many a record store in New York: Virgin, HMV, Tower, you name it! Naturally, I always head straight to the GOS Bin. This time I found the above CD. I quickly realized that Rhino Records, for some reason, had repackaged their 1991 greatest hits CD. However, they deleted and added two songs. The new additions make their American debut since GOS is not represented by an American label. "At The Very Mention of Your Name" is also the David Foster version which was only available as a single in Europe and on a Japanese greatest hits package. Unfortunately, "A Very Extraordinary Sort Of Girl" and "Christmas Song" were removed and are only available on imports. For those who are buying the CD via mail order, please note that the CD has the same record number as the first Rhino release and some might have a few copies of the first issue in their stock.

For the serious collector, the first printing of this collection had an error. Apparently, the Norwegian version of "Can't Think Straight" was added instead of the Peggy Lee version. To my surprise when I played the CD, there was the Norwegian version in all of it's glory. So, If you want a "GOS Collectable", you'll just have to take a chance and buy it as the correct version is already in circulation at Gilbert's request.

Finally, the sound of the revised CD is phenomenal! It appears that the Rhino folks have cleaned-up or done something to the master tapes. I have never heard these songs so clear and free of distortion! I was pleasantly surprise again!
