Ooh-Wakka-Doo-Wakka-Day
Music & Lyrics by Gilbert O'Sullivan
Published by Grand Upright Ltd.

In July 1972, "Ooh-Wakka-Doo-Wakka-Day/But I'm Not", the sixth MAM Single, reached #8 on the UK Singles Chart. The A Side was a stand alone song which did not appear on an album until November 1976 (MAM's Greatest Hits collection). In the US, the song was relegated to the B Side to "Clair" and hardly received much airplay. The UK music press made so much fun of this song that Gilbert would not perform it in concert. To the delight of his fans, "Ooh-Wakka-Doo" found its way back into the concert song list in 2007. In 2008, it received further attention when a fan-created cartoon, made especially for the song, was screened at each show. The live performance presented here is from May 29, 2008 show at the Carre Theatre in Amsterdam.

Nothing Rhymed - Glastonbury '95
Music & Lyrics by Gilbert O'Sullivan
Published by Grand Upright Ltd.

In December 1970, "Nothing Rhymed/Everybody Knows" was Gilbert's MAM debut single which reached #8 on the UK Charts. The Glastonbury Festival took place on June 23-24-25 in 1995 and Gilbert performed in the Acoustic Arena with a string quartet. Besides "Nothing Rhymed", he also sang "Miss My Love Today", "Hold On To What You Got", "Matrimony" and a few others before ending the show with a Glastonbury-inspired "Where Peaceful Waters Flow." What makes this version of "Nothing Rhymed" unique is that was captured live as a duet with Gilbert and Glenn Tilbrook, who along with Chris Difford, were the main force behind the UK group Squeeze!

Takao Kisugi, the Japanese singer and composer was born on November 16, 1950 in Tokyo. In 1976, Kisugi debuted as a singer-songwriter with the single "Asai Yume". Throughout the 1980s, he produced piles of hit tunes with Etsuko Kisugi, his sister and lyricist. As a singer, he recorded "Ashita Hareru ka" the first closing song for the animated TV feature Maison Ikkoku. His songwriting was deeply influenced by The Beatles and Gilbert O'Sullivan. In 1991, he wrote and recorded "What A Way (To Show I Love You)" with O'Sullivan. Takao also sang on "Can't Think Straight". Both songs were featured on the Japanese edition of Gilbert's Sound of the Loop studio album. Outside of Japan, Takao's vocal was replaced by Peggy Lee. The song's only other appearance is on Sounds Of The Loop (1993) in Norway. "What A Way (To Show I Love You)" was also available as CD single in Japan.

This song is the B Side to the MAM Single "Ooh-Wakka-Doo-Wakka-Day." It also appears on the "Back To Front" album. The LP was originally released in the Fall of 1972 in the UK and in January '73 in the USA. This rare version is from the 1991 BBC Radio2 Concert which was recorded at the Festival Theatre, Paignton in Devon. Gilbert enjoys Country Music and this is evident with this very different version.
