Gilbert said he’s very thankful for the attention being paid to his old song, which was released more than thirty years ago. "When I was writing Alone Again, I almost felt like not releasing it. It didn’t seem to be catchy and fashionable at the time. But I decided to make it the next single. I didn’t think this song still survives today." About his life - "I like taking a walk with my dog and cooking for my wife. I think how I make music has not changed. What is important for me is to make moving melodies. Even if you use the latest technology, you can’t move people to tears without good melodies. You might find in my lyrics how I feel about everyday life. However, it I explain the significance of my songs, it will spoil’s the listener’s imagination. So I would like you to listen to my songs, as you like." He also recommends John Mayer’s album, "Heavier Things" because many kinds of scenes occur to you when you listen to his songs. Asked how he feels about the revival hit of Alone Again, Gilbert said, "it’s very nice to get the new audience and fans. I hope they are also interested in my other songs. I’m still making new song as before. If not, I wont’ come to Japan. It’s essential for me create good songs than to perform in concert and to record songs. It’s very difficult to make good melodies. Recently many artists call themselves songwriters, although they just write lyrics. The word songwriter seems to be used at ease." Asked what the definition of a good song is Gilbert said, "It must be simple. I write songs from 9AM to 5PM from Monday to Friday. It’s very important to write songs during a given time every day without being effected by your state of mind. I am moved every time I can create good melodies, no matter how much you’ve made. It’s the best thing about this job. And you can’t learn enough. Even Paul McCartney is still making music."
