Nagoya, Blue Note, Two Concerts Each NightGilbert performed 13 concerts in Japan this past June. Victor Entertainment, said that Gilbert returned to Japan to perform in Okinawa, Fukuoka, Nagoya and Osaka because he could only do the Tokyo concerts last year. He had intended on doing the concerts in these cities as well.
The song list for these Japanese concerts are listed below. Gilbert performed an 18/19-song set. The titles in red were alternates, which the band played at different performances. The band consisted of two new back-up singers (and new to Japan as well): Shelley Blond and Rebecca Thornehill. Gilbert and Mick Parker handled the Keyboards and Julian Webster Greaves played flute, harmonica and sax. Gilbert announced Mick as the Musical Director.
There are three songs to note from these June concerts. Ready Miss Steady has performed in concert various times but remains unreleased. Where Peaceful Waters Flow has not been performed for a number of years. It was one of the highlights from his Glastonbury ’95 Festival appearance. Gilbert told the Japanese audience that the song was his mom’s favorite. Finally, Why, Oh Why, Oh Why is a non-lp song from 1973, which reached Number 6 in the UK. Gilbert returned to the song and added a slight reggae feel. It sounds great! He also told the audience that he only listens to his recordings when he’s choosing material to be play in concert. He mentioned that Fats Domino and his piano-playing style influenced Stick in the Mind. For Miss My Love Today he said it’s a big favorite among fans.
