This website is the culmination of ten years of dedication to the music of Gilbert O Sullivan. I met some wonderful people along the way. They are too many to list here. The chance to speak to Gilbert and to work with him on Rhino Box set have surpassed my wildest dreams. The site represents my private collection (more or less).
This website was created in 1997 by Joe DiMuro. I currently reside in Jersey City, New Jersey. I've been a music fan since Sunday, February 7th, 1964 when the Fab Four appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. I have been a GOS fan since "Alone Again (Naturally)" hit the airwaves in the summer of 1972. I purchased all of Gilbert's British Albums and collected numerous singles from around the world. Many friends and co-workers don't understand this Glbert fascination and the amount of time and effort I spend on this site. I cannot explain it either except to say, as the Beatles before him, I know great music when I hear it! I had the pleasure in 1973 to see Gilbert perform at Lincoln Center in New York City and I saved my ticket stub from the show! Through the years, I tried keeping up with his music career but it was difficult after MAM abandoned the American market in 1975. However, thanks to the global network of dedicated fans, other websites and mailing lists, GOS news now reaches every corner of the world!
It's impossible to mention all the GOS fans that have contributed to this website. However, these individuals have unselfishly donated their time, knowledge, memorabilia and dinner too! I can't thank them enough: Reed & Joann Pitkunigis (USA), Jim Pickford (USA), Basil Philistin (Canada), Ignacio Cólera Beamonte (Spain), Steve Graves (UK), Paul Yates (UK); Lorraine Andrews (UK); Maraclair (NYC)**; Jane - The Super Model (Scotland); Alex Gitlin (Boston) the voice in the darkness back with Version 1.0.; Brian Coughlan who animated this drawing and last but not least my ears and eyes in London, David Birch.
This website is not owned nor affiliated with any of the music companies or other websites noted within. Therefore, I cannot be held responsible for their content, prices, opinions or lack of customer service. Most importantly, this site is "a fan site" and not a part of OSM Inc./Grand Upright Music Inc. or the Official Site www.gilbertosullivan.com. However, I must thank Terry O'Sullivan, Gilbert's Brother, for being my online "guardian angel" in the early days. His suggestions, news updates and encouragement have added much validity to my "Labour of Luv". I must also thank the other brother, Kevin O'Sullivan for his humorous and informative trans-atlantic phone calls! Most importantly, I must acknowledge Gilbert for his kind words. A fan of the Internet he is NOT. However, he continues to let this site exist and I cannot thank him enough!
Finally, it's GOS fans like yourself who make this site worth revisiting! Do you have anything "GOS" related that you don't see here? A rare LP or song, concert or event photos that you took, tour books, posters, fan club material, song books, magazine and or newspaper articles, interviews, audio/video tapes, 45 picture sleeves, original artwork etc? If you have any of the above items, please send me an e-mail! I'd love to hear from you. All lent items will be returned via FedEx. If you want to part with any of these items, forget about EBAY, just name your price!
** Maraclair passed away two years ago. She was a wonderful person and I'm glad I had the chance to meet her. She will be missed.
